Destiny: This Game is Crap

Destiny 3

Yes, yes, the title is shocking and it is meant to be. How on Earth could one of the year’s best and most expensive games in existence be crap? Easy, it’s boring.

I’ve been playing this game for hours, I’m a Warlock up to level 27 and I’ve got all purple armor and almost all purple guns. And it is taking forever on the same levels. I know, I know. But pabs you go around playing Dark Souls 2 all the time and isn’t it boring. No, it’s not.

My kids were good enough to tell me the reason why, you aren’t a first person shooter player. And they might be on to something. I like the third person perspective of gaming, the first person shooter not so much. Which might explain one of problems with Skyrim.

The other problem that I have with Destiny is that the actual story is really short. I burned through the game very fast and was left with… an unsatisfied feeling. Usually when I finish a game it feels like post orgasm or having run a marathon, there’s an adrenaline endorphinated high after completing a game. After multiple rounds this eventually wears off and the game goes in the box. But I’m not getting that with Destiny.

Sure I’m playing it over and over again, but it’s been more about learning how to level up. Yeah I’m getting control of the items needed to level armor and weapons up, and yeah I’m doing it, but I feel like I am doing more for doing it than for the fun of it. Like I don’t have another game that I am interested in playing at this time so I’m playing Destiny.

And that’s why it is crap. I don’t see the point.

The game is beautiful and amazing, every penny they put into the visuals is a penny well spent. Seriously, this is a beautiful game, it trucks, has few bugs, works incredibly well on the back end and it a pure masterpiece of gaming. Except in the story department. The maps and all the potential fun things are there, but it’s a weak and boring story. It’s not “ephemeral” enough like Dark Souls, and it’s not “hard” enough like Skyrim, it’s about as interesting to play as Call of Duty or Battlefield, kinda interesting but you’re really there to take in the shooting things up more than following the story.

I’m not impressed so far. And yes calling the game crap is a bit extreme, but over the past month of playing I’ve found the way to level up and to keep me, personally, engaged in the different settings lacks some punch. I know there are a number of fwooshers enjoying the game and talking about it regularly at the forums.
